Private Versus Shared — the Difference Is Bigger Than the Price Gap
A shared boat on the Varanasi ghats costs a few hundred rupees and leaves when it is full, which on a slow afternoon can mean forty minutes of waiting. You get a seat, not a boat. The route is fixed, the duration is whatever the boatman decides, and on Ganga Aarti evenings shared boats are rafted together five deep — the boat at the back sees the boat in front.
A private boat booking reserves the whole vessel. You leave at your time, stop where you want, stay as long as your package runs, and on aarti evenings you get a front position rather than whatever is left. For a couple the difference is perhaps ₹1,500; for the photograph you actually wanted, it is the entire difference.
We operate four boat classes privately. Which one you want depends on group size, how much of the river you want to cover, and whether engine noise matters to you.
